CD4, also known as T4, is a 55kD glycoprotein member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed on the majority of thymocytes, macrophages, and a subset of peripheral T cells (T helper cells). CD4 functions as a T-cell coreceptor, interacting with MHC class II molecules and playing a crucial role in T-cell activation.
